Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 catches for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
